A proposed residential development on a corner site in inner Melbourne, consisting of a mix of 14 individual two and three storey townhouses. The townhouses are spread across two differently scaled buildings which are separated by a central easement running the length of the site. The open landscaped space which results between these buildings creates a central mews experience for the residents and provides access to garages, allowing the buildings to achieve a strong residential focus to both street frontages. All townhouses have access to natural day lighting and ventilation from both ends at living and bedroom levels. The form of the building is unified through a series of interlocking rich and dark coloured elements of concrete, metal, timber and glass. This results in a strong and contemporary expression which through gestures of scale, material and setback respects the nearby existing residences and surrounding heritage area and provides a bold clear backdrop for the boulevard of large established trees along Queens Parade. |
