A proposed 6-star energy rated affordable housing development consisting of 10 cost effective one and two bedroom apartments, set over 2 levels. All apartments contain northern orientated living areas with balconies and are entered via an open south facing walkway, thereby maximising natural ventilation, northern light and the buildings passive energy efficiency. The apartments sit above a setback and partially sunken ground level carpark, which minimises building bulk and allows a landscaped interface to both residential street frontages. The simple and recognisable form of the building is a composition of painted and textured precast concrete panels combined with shiplapped lightweight cladding. The primary masonry element wraps a feature colour over the top of the building and provides shade and shelter for the balconies and living areas, cradling the dwellings within. A play of these forms is apparent at the western end of the development, which highlights the residential entry and further articulates the different formal elements of the building. |
