Bower Architecture is dedicated to the challenge and responsibility of designing high quality architecture, to produce durable and sustainable buildings which perform and respond within a constantly changing environment and climate.

We see Environmentally Sustainable Design as a core aspect of each project we undertake and in doing so welcome expression of this principle in the buildings function, form and experience for the user.

Essential to this is our commitment to and maintenance of a rigorous design process - which incorporates thinking through both traditional and innovative ESD solutions during all stages of design and construction. By implementing this way of thinking as an integral part of the culture of our practice, we aim for a result which maximizes the buildings efficiency, minimises its pollution and contributes to the creation of a fully sustainable urban environment for future generations. Our respect for the scarcity and value of water is also underlined by our design process where opportunities for collection, retention, storage and re-use possibilities are continually examined.

Bower Architecture subscribes to a holistic approach when exploring the sustainable workings of each building, where passive design solutions (in other words, strategies and solutions that do not need to be mechanically 'switched on') which influence the buildings shape, form, massing, siting and orientation take high priority in optimizing the buildings overall performance and comfort for its users. These strategies often present the simplest most effective way to implement sustainable design and minimise pollution emissions and life-cycle operating costs.

For ESD strategies and systems to work at their full potential we understand they must be conceptually recognised and explored as early as possible in the project. By working with clients to immediately raise their awareness for ESD opportunities, the possible cost and operating benefits of these solutions can be understood at a stage when they can help define a brief and work symbiotically with all necessary building components.
